Lifetime Grand Junction resident and philanthropist Pat Gormley has received the Michel Award from St. Mary's Hospital Foundation in recognition of his leadership and generosity. The Michel Award, established in 2004, was named for Sister Michel Pantenburg whose dedication to philanthropy led to the formation of the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation in 1967.
Gormley has been a member and chairman of the boards of directors of both St. Mary's Hospital and the hospital's charitable foundation. He is currently an emeritus member of the Foundation board. "Pat's background in business and banking and his dedication in the community have provided St. Mary's with experienced leadership," says Penny Cowden, executive director of St. Mary's Hospital Foundation. "He is one of western Colorado's greatest assets."
As a volunteer board member, Gormley was instrumental in fund raising efforts for hospital expansion projects in 1962, 1973, 1975, and is active in St. Mary's upcoming expansion and renovation, the Century Project.
