St. Mary’s Blood Center’s annual “Pint for a Pint” blood drive is underway. Donate a pint of blood in August, and receive a free pint of ice cream while supplies last. “You get your choice of great flavors such as Carmel Candy Crunch, Chocolate Paradise, Vividly Vanilla, and Strawberry Surf,” says Jill Breman, donor recruiter and organizer of the blood drive, “but the best part of this sweet deal is you’ll be helping to replenish our area’s blood supply.”
Because blood is only viable for 42 days, it’s important to always have donations coming in to maintain an adequate community supply. “Volunteer donors are the only source of blood, so we count on the generosity of people who donate regularly and new donors to keep enough blood available,” says Breman.
The Blood Center not only provides blood for accident, surgery, and cancer patients at St. Mary’s but also supplies blood for patients in most hospitals in western Colorado. “Donating blood is a simple thing to do that can literally save the lives of your friends and neighbors,” Breman says.
