Pavilion Imaging has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography following a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Mammography is a digital imaging system to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases.

"The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety," says Joanne Hunter, RT(R), manager of St. Mary's Imaging. The ACR evaluation assessed image quality, qualifications of personnel, adequacy of equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs. Following their review, the accreditation committee provided a comprehensive report of their findings. "We participate in this voluntary review because we are constantly looking for ways to provide the best quality service possible to our patients," Hunter adds. "The ACR's report helps us do that because it lets us see our facility and services from another point of view."

More than 16,200 mammography exams and procedures were performed in 2009 at the Wilma B. Bacon Mammography Center in St. Mary's Advanced Medicine Pavilion, 750 Wellington Avenue.

Accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting American College of Radiology Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists.
