St. Mary's employees got their game on for United Way
St. Mary’s collaborates with many agencies serving the health needs of Grand Valley residents. Many of those agencies receive United Way support. “That’s why St. Mary’s employees, every year, show their team spirit as United Way pacesetters,” says Carol Calacino, co-chair of St. Mary’s United Way Pacesetter Campaign.
St. Mary’s is one of a select group of local organizations who conducted workplace campaigns prior to the community wide United Way campaign. Pacesetters help “set the pace” for the community and raise about 40% of the total United Way dollars donated each year.
“St. Mary’s employees take their commitment to United Way seriously, and we sure had a ‘ball’ doing it,” says Jon Pesta, campaign co-chair. “At our United Way Agency Fair, employees learned about local agencies supported by the United Way—information that is useful for referring patients and family members who can benefit from services.”
During the Pacesetter Campaign, employees gave $69,575, surpassing the previous year. The championship season culminated in a “tailgate party” on the cafeteria patio and the opportunity for contributors to test their throwing arms and “dunk” their favorite member of the Senior Leadership Team.
“With the current economy affecting many local residents, help is needed more than ever,” says Calacino. “Every gift, large and small, helps because small victories lead to bigger wins.”
