Third Year Residents

Rob Boyer, M.D., UCLA
I was born in Provo, Utah as the seventh of eight siblings. Living in one of the most active & beautiful states in the country, my love for the outdoors was cultivated at an early age. At age 19 I served a two year church service mission in Chile, where I grew to love Spanish & the Chilean people. I initially attended Utah State with a Major in Landscape Architecture, but soon found myself drawn toward medicine after compelling classes in Biology & Human Physiology. After meeting the love of my life during Sophmore year, we moved to my wife’s home state of California, where I worked at Sears selling refrigerators as I completed my degree at UC @ Riverside. Upon completion of my Bachelors degree I worked for a year as a lab tech in an environmental waste processing facility while applying to medical school. I was fortunate to attend med school at UCLA, where I received excellent training in both the science & art of medicine. I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife & two children. I am thrilled to be at the St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency because it provides excellent training opportunities & an incredible area for my family and to explore. Rob's email is Robert.Boyer@stmarygj.org.

Clifton Burt, M.D.,
Drexel University

I grew up in Phoenix, the son of a doctor mother & a geologist father, and always knew I wanted to go into one of the sciences. During high school & college I worked as a medical transcriptionist. While in college I spent a year in Milan, Italy. After graduating from Arizona State University,I served as a lay Catholic missionary in Bolivia, caring for homeless children with the Amanecer Foundation, run by the Sisters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul. During this experience I realized that I wanted to do something that would enable me to help people anywhere. After returning to the US I fulfilled my pre-med requirements & then attended Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. While in med school I spent a summer working in a clinic in rural El Salvador. I also developed an interest in academic medicine & medical learning. I enjoy many outdoor activities including biking & hiking, and also enjoy the dry warm climate. When I came to Western Colorado, I fell in love with the people & the location here and decided Grand Junction was the place to come for residency. Cliff's email address is Clifton.Burt@stmarygj.org.

Sing-Wei Ho, M.D.,
University of Minnesota

I am originally from Taipei, Taiwan & fondly recall my first sight of snow when my family & I stepped off the plane at the Minneapolis Airport. Later that same day, I remember thinking that garages were weird... Growing up in Richfield, MN, I loved to build snow forts, take classes at a nature center, dance, play music & tennis, & take road trips with my family through the very flat Midwest. At the U of MN, I earned a BS in Biochemistry, MPH in Environmental Health & Public Policy, & MD. I realized that the best education was hands-on & heart-open through our incredible journey. I feel lucky to be training at an institution that is not only on the frontier of health care but also one that fosters the growth of individuals & families. I look forward to practicing full spectrum family medicine & helping to improve the public health & sustainability of small communities. In my free time, I enjoy hanging with my husband, Nate, & dog, Max. I have also discovered the joys of playing soccer & exploring this great land! Sing-Wei's email address is SingWei.Ho@stmarygj.org.

Anna Krauss, D.O.,
AT Still University, Kirksville COM

After growing up in the suburbs of Charleston, SC, I spread my wings & left home to attend Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA. There I received my BS in Biochemistry. After working for a year in Pittsburgh, I headed west to attend Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in MO. I spent my last two years of med school doing rotations in Denver, & fell in love with both the Rocky Mountains & Colorado. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, hiking, running, traveling, dancing and skiing. I also love to teach & coach swimmers of all abilities. Once I discovered that I enjoy the challenge & the diversity of treating a wide range of ages, I knew that family medicine was for me. I also love the continuity I’ve experienced in family medicine that provides the opportunity to develop rich relationships with my patients. My specific interests include preventative health, working with adolescents & osteopathic manipulative medicine. Anna's email address is Anna.Krauss@stmarygj.org.

Vanessa McClellan, D.O.,
Touro University, Nevada COM

Growing up in Anchorage, AK taught me to appreciate the great outdoors. We had fresh salmon in the summer, blueberries in the fall, & backpacking & mountain biking only minutes away. The long, dark winters grew old & had me eager to experience something different. I exchanged the beautiful mountains for the endless plains & cold of St. Paul, MN. At Hamline University, I studied Biology & Psychology, played on the women’s soccer team, & despite the lack of cliffs in the twin cities - fell in love with rock climbing. Following graduation, I worked for Alaska Airlines taking advantage of the flight benefits & explored much of the western US. During that year I applied to Med School & decided on retreating to the heat of the southwest at Touro in NV. I was drawn to Osteopathic Medicine due to their holistic philosophy, focus on primary care, & the principles of OMT. St. Mary’s appealed to me with their superior education opportunities, commitment to underserved populations, & the wealth of outdoor activities available on the western slope. I’m very excited about this adventure & would love to answer any questions you may have regarding the program, lifestyle, or whatever you may be curious about. Vanessa's email address is Vanessa.McClellan@stmarygj.org.

Katherine McCrea, M.D.,
University of Illinois at Rockford

I was born & raised in the farming town of Hinckley, IL. I come from a family of six with two sisters & one brother & additional pets throughout the years. My dad has his own plumbing & heating business and my mom is a pre-school teacher. I attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana where I received my BA in Animal Sciences. I graduated medical school from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. I have always been drawn to rural family medicine and was in the rural medicine program at U of I. In searching for a residency I wanted to take the opportunity to live in a new area of the country. Grand Junction seems to fit all the things I was looking for & more. The wonderful residency program combined with the great people I have met & the beautiful land convinced me to move. Music is one little hobby of mine & I enjoy trying to learn guitar. I am excited to have some milder winters & great opportunities to learn how to ski. I enjoy the outdoors whether it is camping, hiking or gardening & I love to travel to see new places. I am looking forward to living & working here in Grand Junction. Katie's email address is Katherine.McCrea@stmarygj.org.

Ashley O'Hara, M.D.,
University Of Rochester

I grew up on Arnold Lake, a rural community just a few miles from the birthplace of baseball - Cooperstown, NY. Ironically, baseball never caught me. Instead, I took to skiing steep mountains & deep powder (not in upstate NY, of course!), & Colorado became one of my favorite places early in life. There were more cows than humans in my hometown, & in such a rural area, I developed an appreciation for rural medicine & the challenges & rewards involved. After spending time with family docs in high school & college (Syracuse University), I decided that medicine was my natural path. I attended med school at the University of Rochester & developed passions for community medicine, international outreach, caring for the underserved & broad-spectrum family medicine. My favorite experiences in med school include acting as the clinical coordinator at our student-run clinic, learning "medical" American Sign Language, & performing antenatal/perinatal research in Malawi. All the while, I dreamt of moving out West. Luckily, my other half (Evan) did too. I am thrilled to join the St. Mary’s family & begin exploring the Western slope. There’s no doubt we’ll get lots of hiking, biking, skiing, & learn to garden. Most importantly, I look forward to becoming an excellent rural family physician practicing full-spectrum medicine. Ashley's email address is Ashley.OHara@stmarygj.org.

Katherine Van Stedum, D.O.,
Western University COM of the Pacific

I was born & raised in Denver. College was Seattle Pacific University until 100 straight days of rain convinced me to return to Colorado’s sunshine & finish at CU - Boulder with a degree in English literature. I worked in different doctors’ offices & the ER while debating about pursuing medicine. With an appreciation of the job I decided to make all the science courses I took in college worthwhile & headed back to the west coast to attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Southern California. After experiencing more than 100 days of LA traffic, I wanted to come back to a more spacious place to live. I appreciate the type of training one gets in a more rural area & feel fortunate to be accepted into St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency. My medical interests include public health, hospice care, & pediatrics. I’m looking forward to exploring this city & the surrounding area & participating in the numerous outdoor adventures available here. Katie's email address is Katherine.VanStedum@stmarygj.org.
