First Year Residents
Gina Alkes, M.D.
University of Colorado
Growing up in Colorado, much of my time was spent enjoying all of the outdoor activities that it has to offer. I have been fortunate to remain here for my bachelor’s in Biochemistry from CU in Boulder & med school at CU in Denver. I worked in chem labs, but they lacked the level of personal interaction I was looking for. Med school was a great change of pace. I was a member of the Rural Track which helped me decide to pursue an MPH, during which I focused largely on health policy. All of these factors made Grand Junction & St. Mary’s FMR the best choice to continue my training. I am excited about the opportunity to practice full-spectrum family medicine, in a cutting edge healthcare system, with amazing people, & proximity to the hiking, biking, skiing, & other outdoor activities that I have loved all my life. I look forward to living on the Western slope with my golden retriever & chocolate lab, receiving excellent training during residency & then finding a community where I can be a physician & health advocate for years to come. Corey Dobson, M.D.
University of Colorado
I was born in Colorado & lived in Salida since I was three. Salida is a small town in the heart of the mountains. Being raised in this environment shaped much of who I am. I love small communities & hope to practice in a town like Salida. (My days in Denver are far behind!) I have a passion for the outdoors & my wife, Kim, & I love participating in anything that has to do with Colorado's wonderful outdoors including hiking, climbing, hunting, trail running, biking, etc. I'm excited to be coming to Grand Junction for my residency because I know it will prepare me to be the best small town broad spectrum physician that I can be & also allow me to be close to some of the most beautiful wilderness settings around. We are thrilled to become a part of the St. Mary's family. Corey's email address is: Corey.Dobson@stmarygj.org.
Katherine Garnett, M.D.
Virginia Commonwealth University
Kate grew up in rural Pennsylvania, near the historic Civil War battlefield of Gettysburg . . . in fact, the movie Gettysburg was filmed in the fields behind her family’s farmstead. She headed south for college at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and despite the sticky summer humidity of Virginia, stayed around in Virginia another four years to complete medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Cross-country camping trips as a child in an old Chevy van with her family of eight piqued her interest in the rural West. Her own family physician influenced her decision to pursue rural family medicine, thus landing in Grand Junction, where she’s very excited to begin residency. Tessa Landa, M.D.
University of Florida
I lived in Gainesville, FL my whole life where my parents are both nurses. Even with this strong tie to medicine, it took a bit of searching for me to find my place. I enrolled in an aviation program for commercial pilots while attending Jacksonville U. After a few semesters this didn’t interest me as much as medicine & I transferred to UF earning a degree in Nutritional Science. I chose to be a doctor because I have a passionate interest in science & a personal desire to make a difference in the lives of others. I am interested in primary care because the doctor-patient relationship is the most important part of medicine. I want to handle a wide variety of clinical presentations in challenging rural & wilderness conditions. I have spent significant time in the Rocky Mountains finding a deep connection with the lifestyle & people & truly feel at home. I spend as much time outdoors as possible. Mountain biking & skiing are my two favorite activities - with my adventure buddy Cooper (my dog) who keeps up with me on the bike or skis! Tessa's email address is: Tessa.Landa@stmarygj.org.
Kimberly Hoffpauir Landrum, M.D.
Louisiana State University
I grew up in the small South Louisiana community of Indian Bayou, in the heart of Cajun country. I spent my childhood learning how to garden, raise chickens, farm crawfish & do mechanic work. For fun, we would go mudding on four-wheelers & camping. I attended the U of Louisiana - Lafayette, majoring in Biology, then med school at LSU in New Orleans. I was in the Rural Scholars program where I took part in activities to promote rural medicine & spent a day a week during 3rd & 4th year with a family medicine preceptor in Crowley, Louisiana. My experience with my rural preceptor had a huge impact such that I plan to practice in a rural setting, providing quality healthcare to those in need. I am really thrilled to be receiving this training from St. Mary’s! I met my husband, Justin (a Colorado native) while he was in Louisiana training for work. Justin is from the small town of Silt, about an hour outside Grand Junction. That’s how I came to know about the residency. We are so excited to be here & look forward to being able to take part in some of our favorite outdoor activities-hiking, camping, & fishing. Kim's email address is: Kimberly.Landrum@stmarygj.org.
Erin Luebs, D.O.
Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine
I was born & raised in Grand Junction & have always had a love for the great outdoors as well as just about any outdoor activity. I studied Biology at Colorado Mesa U, which led me to the beautiful country of Ecuador where I partook in tropical field & ornithological research, as well as volunteering in women’s healthcare. During undergrad, I spent time volunteering at Marillac Clinic, where I got a taste of the impressive healthcare system in Mesa County. This led to a travel bug & a passion for providing care to underserved communities. I attended med school at Midwestern U in Glendale, AZ where I was able to further nurture these passions on 2 med missions to Guatemala. When it came time to apply for residency I was ready to head back home with my fiance & our sweet Border Collie/Lab mix – Lilly (awesome running partner!) My medical interests include women’s health & HIV/AIDS primary care. I am so excited to be back in this beautiful town & am looking forward to, once again, enjoy the great outdoors of Colorado & starting residency at this excellent program. Lisa Roberts, M.D.
University of Iowa
I grew up on a farm set amongst the gently rolling green hills of eastern Iowa. Although I didn’t fully appreciate small town life at the time, my upbringing has inspired me to pursue a career working in a rural environment. I attended the U of Iowa, where I earned degrees in History & Integrative Physiology. During undergrad my love of the Hawkeyes was further intensified & I was able to embrace my inner history nerd by studying abroad in London, then at Oxford. After a month training as a wilderness EMT in Wyoming I was convinced both medicine & the Mountain West would be a great fit. I returned to Iowa for med school, where my favorite rotations were those with family medicine physicians in small communities. I enjoyed the experience of practicing full-spectrum medicine & providing continuity of care. These rotations, along with electives in Bangladesh, the Indian Himalayas, Mexico, & Guatemala, helped grow my passion for working with underserved, rural communities. I am very excited to be joining St. Mary’s & my new husband, Jonathan, & I look forward to taking advantage of the area’s amazing outdoor opportunities. Lisa's email address is: Lisa.Roberts@stmarygj.org.
Anne Siler, M.D.
Oregon Health & Science University
I grew up in Northern New Mexico in a small town near Santa Fe, & spent many weekends backpacking & skiing in the mountains of Southern Colorado. Living near Los Alamos National Laboratory, I had opportunities to work there during high school, which piqued my interest in science. I went to college at Lewis & Clark in Portland, OR. After college, I worked in a TB research lab at OHSU before attending medical school there, where I developed a strong affinity for global health & rural medicine. The last few years, I've spent time helping patients & learning in India, Uganda & rural Oregon. My husband, Josh, & I enjoy backpacking, skiing, aviation & biking. I'm incredibly excited to be part of the St. Mary's team & explore Grand Junction. Anne's email address is: Anne.Siler@stmarygj.org.
