Respiratory Care

St. Mary's Respiratory Care team is involved with every aspect of pulmonary diagnostics and treatment for infants through geriatric patients. We provide life support to those with acute lung injury as well as maintenance therapy for those with chronic pulmonary disease.

Registered and certified respiratory therapists use state-of-the-art techniques and equipment to manage breathing for emergency/trauma patients, asthma sufferers, those with chronic lung disease, newborns with underdeveloped lungs, and critical care patients requiring ventilator support. Our goal is to educate and help patients understand what they can do to maintain their greatest level of lung health. Respiratory therapists are routinely involved in community education for the elementary schools, teaching about the dangers of smoking as well as providing pulmonary screening testing at various health fairs for the adults.

St. Mary's Respiratory Care team consists of registered and certified respiratory therapists, a respiratory supervisor, and clinical educators ensuring optimal respiratory management and treatment. A pulmonologist, as medical director, guides all aspects of care. Respiratory therapy is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The respiratory care team works closely with the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit and is actively involved with the CareFlight air medical transport program. Respiratory diagnostics and therapy are available as both inpatient and outpatient services.

Family involvement and support are vital to successfully adapting to life with a ventilator or reducing dependence on one. We include family members in treatment and education so the patient's condition, management techniques, and safety considerations are understood and more easily integrated at home.
