St. Mary’s is certified by the Joint Commission, the largest health care accrediting organization in the U.S., as a Primary Stroke Center, meeting the standards of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for caring for stroke patients.
With a stroke-trained neurologist on staff and a telemedicine relationship with the stroke center at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, a stroke expert is always available. Upon arriving at St. Mary’s emergency department, patients suspecting of suffering a stroke are assessed by staff and a stroke-trained neurosurgeon. Appropriateness for administration of clot-busting medication is determined.
Patients are cared for on our neuro-trauma-stroke unit and receive physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy as appropriate. After leaving the hospital, patients can continue therapy at St. Mary’s Life Center if needed.
St. Mary’s sponsors monthly support groups for former stroke patients, family members and loved ones.
